Define, Discover, Design, Develop, Deliver. Trick tips on how to approach your projects and problems. Thanks to Mt Sierra College, we use these tools here at Newbrew Web Development to help keep organized and stay focused because we care. We also critique our projects based on the Elements and Principles of design. Keeping these basic fundamentals in mind keeps us sharp and ready to tackle any project or problem.

1. Define

Breakthrough solutions come from well-defined problems. Developing new projects, products, processes, or even businesses can give you a headache because of all the brainpower it requires. Most companies aren’t sufficiently defining their problems. They attempt to solve and articulate why those issues are essential. Without deep critical thinking, organizations miss opportunities, waste resources, and end up pursuing strategies that aren’t aligned with their goals and expectations. How many times have you completed a project and in hindsight you realize there is a more productive way to operate? I think we need to become better at asking the right questions so we can tackle the right problems. Define your goals and expectations because it is worth it in the long run.

2. Discover

When was the last time you got hit in the head and became smarter? Never. Discovering new ways to become more productive and more efficient is a must, therefore digging is a must. You have to put in the time and research your demographics and competitors based on your projects or problems. Be adventurous and try new things because whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you right. – Henry Ford. Most likely someone has already experienced the same trials and tribulations you’re experiencing. Research the way others have solved similar problems then adopt and adapt was is best for your particular problem or project.

3. Design

Strap up your boots and get ready, the fun is about to begin! Gather up all your R&D (Research and Development) and hop on the first train to a creative town! This is the stage where you create your thumbnails and comps of your projects or problems. A smart and thoughtful design will help you succeed and stand apart from your competitors. Creating content that is productive and serves a purpose will boost your demographics understanding of your project or problems. Next is getting the feedback you need to move forward and make progress because setting yourself up for success will make your life much easier.

4. Develop

Now take your feedback and apply it to your designs. Perfecting your work and making it just right can sometimes require an outside opinion. Just remember, at the end of the day, it’s your design and your problem. Too many opinions can dilute and water down a great idea or situation – “A camel is a horse designed by comity. – unknown” Take ownership and turn your project into a final design and move on to the next “D”!

5. Deliver

It’s time to deliver your solutions and show off your success. Use detail in your explanation about your overall process and how you, and as a team, arrived at the finish line. Be sure to explain how it has worked on previous projects, or how you’re trying something new. No matter what, stand behind your work and be confident about its potential and success because you worked hard and smart.
