Return of the Living Dead II (1988) is a horror-comedy sequel that revives the brain-hungry mayhem of the original with a more tongue-in-cheek tone. When a barrel of toxic gas falls off a military truck and cracks open in a suburban graveyard, it unleashes a green mist that reanimates the dead. As zombies overrun the town, a group of kids and misfit adults fight for survival while cracking wise and blasting ghouls. Directed by Ken Wiederhorn, the film leans into slapstick and cartoonish gore, recycling some cast members from the first film in new roles and turning up the camp.
